Bunionette

A bunionette, (little bunion) or Tailor’s Bunionette, is a bump that protrudes from the lateral side of the forefoot by the base of the little toe.

It usually is a combination of a tender bursa sac and bone. Some 5th metatarsal bones angle outward, and some have a lateral prominence. In these cases, the bursa overlying the area may get irritated when the foot rubs against the inside of the shoe.

Treatment
As with most forefoot problems it is usually best to try to find a shoe that will not put stress against this area. Sometimes shoes must be modified to accommodate a prominence. If that is not satisfactory, it is appropriate to consider surgical treatment for this problem.
